The starboard engine started to overheat when they passed Lisbon and near Vila Nova de Milfontes they lost power. During the landing the aircraft flipped over. Walters and Hall were able to leave the wreckage trough the cockpit glass, but Brown was incarcerated in gun tower.
With the help of one ax and some Portuguese people it was possible to take him out. Brown had back injuries and many cuts and bruises.
His time of internment was spent in the British Hospital in Lisbon while Walters and Hall spent their time in Elvas with other allied crew members.
